Q. Do you have to be in good shape to start Kung Fu?
A. No experience is necessary and you can be at any fitness level to begin, you progress at your own rate.
Can one be too old to practice Kung Fu?
No, in China it is not unusual to see people practicing Kung Fu in their 80's and 90's! The moves can be practiced slow, fast, hard, or soft. Kung Fu promotes well being.
Q. Will I get roughed up or beaten up during my training and learning of Kung Fu?
A. Most definitely not. At Forbidden Dragon we welcome beginners and we teach in a safe, friendly, relaxed manner and environment. The lessons are so easily adapted to and are easily practiced and understood.
Q. Is Kung Fu good for kids?
A. Thanks to junk food, video games and bad television, our kids have become desensitized and turning into (or already are) couch potatoes. So the answer to this question is YES! Kung Fu will build confidence, awareness, discipline and is a very effective form of exercise and self defense. It is fun, safe, and exciting. Kung Fu teaches kids to respect themselves and others and helps develop your child into a better person.
Q. At what age can a child start Kung Fu?
A. In China children can start as young as 2 or 3! But we recommend starting your child at around 8 years old (because of a better attention span). At Forbidden Dragon we offer a free assessment to see if your child is old enough to begin.
Q. Do you need a large space or equipment to practice/train?
A. Kung Fu can be practiced anywhere at anytime by anyone. That's what makes Kung Fu so unique!
Q. I have tried many different exercise programs; I've joined gyms, wasted money on equipment I don't use but I have no motivation to exercise, What can I do?
A. The reason most workouts don't work out is:
- Boredom and repetitiveness.
- No time to train.
- Not training regularly (skipping days/weeks).
- No motivation, no fun.
- Not seeing or feeling results.
- Gadgets, fads, and products that don't work.
The secret to success is to train both the mind and body. Exercise machines do give a great workout but they do not train the mind like Kung Fu does. While you're using these machines your mind is still thinking about paying bills, your job, your children, relationships, so your body got a great workout, and your mind is still stressed out. The mind is the central control system for our moods. It is our mind that motivates and it is our mind that gets bored. This is why the equipment you bought is sitting in your basement or garage.
Q. I am thinking about arranging Kung Fu lessons for my staff/co-workers. What are the benefits?
A. Kung Fu is a great way to de-stress, increase confidence, focus energy and boost morale of your staff. It is a fun and safe way to exercise and learn self defense. People that are motivated and full of energy are more productive at work!
Q. What sort of workout can I expect from Kung Fu?
A. From simple exercise to promoting circulation to an all out intense sweat session. It all depends on your preferences and fitness levels.
Q. How much time do I have to devote to see results?
A. Anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes 3 times a week. It is a short workout that provides maximum results.
Q. How long does it take to get good at self defense techniques?
A. If you keep up to date with your training and motivate yourself you will notice results within 6 to 12 weeks.
Q. Is Kung Fu an effective form of self defense?
A. Kung Fu uses simple moves that can be lethal.
